Search Criteria
When creating user-defined filters, you can define search criteria that determine the filter function.
- A search criterion always consists of the following components:
- Field (1): A field may be a text field, a picklist, or an attribute.
- Condition (2): A condition determines the type of link between the selected field and the respective value.
- Value (3): Depending on the type of the selected condition, a value may be a text in a text field, a picklist value, or an attribute value. Depending on the type of the selected condition, it may be possible to select an individual value or several values.
The range of conditions and values available for selection depends on the type of the selected field.
To define a new criterion, simply click any area of a new line. Subsequently, you can determine the field, condition, and value of the criterion.
Criteria can be linked by using logical operators and groupings.
To delete a criterion, select it, right-click it, and select the item Delete from the context menu.
Term count fields
The fields "Entry – Term count in source language" and "Entry – Term count in target language" enable searching for entries with a particular number of terms in the source or target language. The two fields compared to other fields represent a special case since they can only be used in combination with other search criteria.
Thus, they are inserted by first selecting one or several search criteria and then selecting the item Add term count from the context menu.
Subsequently, the field is inserted and can be defined as usual by adding a condition and a corresponding value:
For example, in connection with the field "Term – Usage", the term count fields can be used to search for entries that have more than one or exactly one standard term in the source or target language.
Another Example
If you want to search for terms for which no translations exist in the selected target language, create a user-defined filter with the following conditions:
- Entry - Number of terms in the source language | > | 0
- Entry - Number of terms in the target language | equals | 0
- Entry - Created | exists
Conditions
The following conditions can be used for the definition of search criteria:
Picklist conditions
If you select a picklist as field, you can use the conditions listed below.
The range of conditions available for selection depends on the type of the selected picklist.
Condition | Example | Result |
Equals Is equal to the selected value. | You select the field "Entry - Subject" with the condition "equals" and the value "Technology". | Only entries with the subject "Technology" at entry level are searched for. |
You select "Term - Released" as field, with the condition "equals" and the value "True". | Only released terms are searched for. Unreleased terms are ignored during the search with this condition.
Does not equal Matches all but the selected value. In this context, no assigned value – e.g. if no relation is assigned – is also considered to be a value. Allows the selection of one value. | You select "Term - Relation" as field, with the condition "does not equal" and the value "Customer A". | All terms associated with any relation except for the relation "Customer A" are searched for. Terms without relation are also searched for. |
You select "Term - Usage" as field, with the condition "does not equal" and the value "Do not use". | Terms with all usage attributes (default, synonym, etc.) are searched for, except for forbidden terms. Terms without a usage attribute are also searched for.
Contains Matches one of the selected values. | You select "Term - Relation" as field, with the condition "contains" and the values "Customer A" and "Customer B". | Only terms associated with either the relation "Customer A" or the relation "Customer B" are searched for. |
Does not contain Matches all but the selected values. In this context, no assigned value is also considered to be a value. Several values can be selected. | You select "Term - Relation" as field, with the condition "does not contain" and the values "Customer A" and "Customer B". | All terms associated with any relation except for the relations "Customer A" and "Customer B" are searched for. |
You select the field "Term - Term type", with the condition "does not contain" and the values "Main entry term" and "Synonym". | All term types are searched for, except for the main entry terms and the synonyms.
Exists The field is used in the entries or terms searched for. The value of the field is irrelevant. A utilized field without a value is interpreted as an existing field, which is covered by the condition. | You select "Term - Relation" as field, with the condition "exists". | Only terms containing the field "Term - Relation" are searched for, regardless of whether and which relation is selected. |
Missing The field is not used in the respective entries or terms. A utilized field without a value is not interpreted as a missing field and is therefore not covered by the condition. | You select "Entry - Subject" as field, with the condition "missing". | Only entries that do not contain the field "Subject" at entry level are searched for. Entries that contain the field "Subject" but for which no subject is selected are not searched for. |
On Only entries or terms created or edited on the specified date are searched for. | You select "Term - Created" as field, with the condition "on" and the value "January 1, 2010". | Only terms created on January 1, 2010 are searched for. |
Not on All terms or entries are searched for except for those created or edited on the specified date. | You select "Term - Created" as field, with the condition "not on" and the value "January 1, 2010". | All terms are searched for except for those created on January 1, 2010. |
Before Only entries or terms created or edited before the specified date are searched for. | You select "Term - Created" as field, with the condition "Before" and the value "January 1, 2009". | Only terms created before January 1, 2009 are searched for. |
After All entries or terms created or edited after the specified date are searched for. | You select "Term - Created" as field, with the condition "After" and the value "December 31, 2008". | Only terms created after December 31, 2008 are searched for. |
Conditions for Text Fields
The range of conditions available for selection depends on the type of the selected text field.
Condition | Example | Result |
Equals Is equal to the specified value. | You select "Term - Inventory number" as field, with the condition "equals" and the value "5193-6". | Only terms with the inventory number "5193-6" are searched for. As the search considers the exact string, the text field must only contain the value "5193-6". For example, a term with the value "5193-6-1" would not be found. |
Does not equal Matches all but the selected value. | You select "Term - Inventory number" as field, with the condition "does not equal" and the value "5193-6". | Terms with all inventory numbers except "5193-6" is searched for. A term with the inventory number "5193-6-1" would also be included in the search results. |
Contains The text field contains the specified value. | You select "Term - Inventory number" as field, with the condition "contains" and the value "5193-". | Terms whose inventory number contains the value "5193-" are searched for, e.g. the inventory numbers "5193-6-1" and "5193-x-5-2". |
Does not contain The text field does not contain the specified value. | You select "Term - Inventory number" as field, with the condition "does not contain" and the value "5193-". | Terms whose inventory numbers do not contain the value "5193-" are searched for. |
Starts with The text field starts with the specified value. | You select "Entry - Definition" as field, with the condition "Starts with" and the value "Indicator". | Only entries containing a definition that starts with "Indicator" are searched for. |
Does Not Start with The text field does not start with the specified value. | You select "Entry - Definition" as field, with the condition "Does not start with" and the value "Indicator". | Only entries containing a definition that does not start with "Indicator" are searched for. |
Ends with The text field ends with the specified value. | You select "Term - Part number" as field, with the condition "Ends with" and the value "-000". | Only terms whose part number ends with "-000" are searched for. |
Does Not End with The text field does not end with the specified value. | You select "Term - Part number" as field, with the condition "Does not end with" and the value "000". | Only terms whose part number does not end with "000" are searched for. |
Exists The text field is used in the entries or terms searched for. | You select "Entry - Definition" as field, with the condition "exists". | Only entries containing a definition at entry level are searched for. |
