Analysis and Calculation of Repetitions

If a text contains repetitions, this means that there are segments or sentences with identical content.

Across has a predefined repetition type referred to as "sentence repetition". Additionally, Across checks all texts for text matches, even if this does not necessarily mean that a sentence repetition is on hand.

Sentence Repetitions

Thanks to sentence repetitions, identical sentences merely need to be translated once. Sentence repetitions are shown in reports and are used for auto-propagation in crossDesk. The check for sentence repetitions is conducted after the auto-adjustment and auto-changes.

A sentence repetition is on hand if the following details of two sentences are identical:

  • Entire text including spaces and uppercase/lowercase spelling of all words and letters
  • Formatting of all words and letters
  • Number and position of elements
  • The type, number, and position of numbers
  • Punctuation
Attention

As repetitions are calculated differently in Across v6.3 and Across v7.0, these two versions generate different reports for the same project. Especially in supply chain scenarios involving different Across versions, all parties involved should therefore agree beforehand which report is to be used for the calculation.

Text Matches

The check for text matches helps you to ensure the consistency of your texts. For example, it is used for the QM criterion Same source – different translation.

A text match is on hand if the text in two sentences is identical.

A text match is on hand even if the following differences exist between two sentences:

  • Capitalization
  • Spaces
  • Formatting
  • Number and position of elements
  • Type, number, and position of numbers
  • Punctuation
