This online help provides an overview of the most important new features and changes in Across v7.0.

Using the side bar, you can access the detailed feature descriptions, grouped by subject. Below you will also find a list of features by version.

You can download the complete release notes under Support - Updates.

Attention

Please note that you should only use new Across functions and options after thoroughly checking the possible consequences of the change and after making careful preparations.

In particular, check the implications for offline translators, crossGrid partners, and other parties integrated in your translation workflows.

  • The LanguageWire MT engine is now supported.
  • New keyboard shortcuts have been introduced which allow for a systematic concordance search in the source or target language in crossDesk:
    • Search in the source language: CTRL + F3
    • Search in the target language: CTRL + Shift + F3
  • Terminology
  • New features in crossTerm Now:
    • Index cross-references are now supported. You can add them at entry level in the edit mode.

  • Terminology
  • The functionality of filter sets has been modified.

    crossTerm filter sets consist of several user-defined crossTerm filters and enable complex search queries using multiple filters. When configuring a filter set, you can combine the filters according to your needs. When running search queries on the basis of a filter set, the search now takes place across all filters. (Previously, the filters used to be taken into consideration one after another (cascading search), and the search used to be stopped as soon as one of the filters delivered a result.) Now all filters are taken into consideration, and all terms that at least one of the filters applies to are displayed.

  • An additional report, the Edit Distance Report (EDR), is now available. It contains information on the editing distance of texts pre-translated with the help of machine translation. You can see exactly which sentences have been post-edited, and to what extent.
  • Tip

    Please note that a separate license is required for the EDR. If you are interested, please contact your account manager.

  • System Management and Settings
  • In the document settings templates for Excel 2007-2016, you can now determine that hidden cells are to be checked in.
  • If Word documents in right-to-left (RTL) languages are not displayed correctly upon check-out, you can now determine in the document settings templates for Word 2007-2016 that Across should not apply any additional RTL properties.

    For Word 2007-2016, you can also determine that drop-down lists are to be checked in and translated.

  • MRK tags in XLIFF files are now identified as segment delimiters.
  • Translation and Translation Environment
  • QM mode v7.0 has been supplemented with a number of functions:
    • Trusted Server and offline users can now supplement tasks received from the Master Server with their own QM criteria.
    • The filter view of the QM criteria shows which options have been selected for the respective criterion.
    • The terminology check now reports an error if a do-not-use term is used in the translation.
  • Terminology
  • The stemming functionality has been expanded to another 11 languages including Romanian and Serbian.
  • crossTerm Now has been supplemented with various new functions:
    • The task overview has been revised and now displays the usage icons. Moreover, the task list is sorted by languages.
    • You can add hint texts (i.e. context-specific help) in certain places. In this way, you can provide your users with hints on how to handle certain fields, e.g. in the edit mode.
    • You can now search tasks for term text. This will make it easier for you to find a specific task in an extensive list.

      Moreover, you can toggle between the various tasks with a click.

    • Links between entries can now be created by simply entering the respective entry ID.
    • You will receive a message if the term that you want to suggest already exists (i.e. if it is a homograph). Moreover, an alert will be issued if you try to create a translation task, but a translation of the term already exists in this language.
    • The number of help links has been expanded. You can now also specify direct links for the workflow and task area.
    • Work items and their history will remain visible even if the associated terms or entries have been deleted.
  • Other New Features and Changes
  • From Across v7.0 15279, package version 22 is used for the data exchange between actors using this Across version. If the parties have different Across versions, the package version supported by the older one of the Across versions used must be selected.

  • As all tasks now have a sequence number, you can sort the task list according to the task sequence.
  • The partitioning function has again been revised. You can now determine partitions on the basis of the number of paragraphs or words.
  • In the Tasks module, the expanded view for assignments has been revised and improved.
  • Translation and Translation Environment
  • Expanded QM Mode v7

    You can now design custom QM criteria with the help of regular expressions. This allows you to address special situations, if necessary for specific languages.

    Additionally, QM criteria have been introduced for Windows and .NET resources, and the QM mode view in crossView has been optimized.

  • In crossDesk, you can now filter for comments that contain specific text.
  • The Hunspell spell-checker is now also available in the Across Client. It can be configured by the individual users in the user settings. The configuration of the Hunspell spell-checker for crossWeb will continue to be performed by an (Across) administrator on the Across Server.
  • The icons for the functions Show terms for active sentence only (icn_cDesk_cTerm_terme-aktiver-satz) and Show terms without translations (icn_cDesk_cTerm_terme-ohne-uebersetzung) in the crossTerm window of crossDesk/crossDesk Web have been updated.
  • Terminology
  • You can now add term translations with one click from within crossDesk.
  • You can now use the structure of an existing instance as the basis for a new instance in order to easily create new instances according to your needs.
  • In crossTerm Now, source terms can now automatically be transferred to the target language with the help of a special workflow.
  • In the Across Client, homographs are now always displayed separately in the list of results. The option to hide homographs has been removed. For crossTerm Web, the homograph setting configured in the configuration tool of crossTerm Web (PresetTool) continues to apply.
  • New Products
  • The LSP Light Edition has been introduced. This is the smallest server solution of Across and is mainly suitable for smaller language service providers or teams.

  • In the crossTank Manager, it is now possible to search the source and target texts of stored translation units at the same time with separate search texts.
  • In addition to the status-based filters, the crossView now offers a content filter that can be limited to the source text and to the target text.
  • In crossDesk, you can now decide whether you only want to see comments or the change history as well.
  • You can configure, export, and import custom keyboard shortcuts both in the user settings of the Client and in crossWeb.

  • You can now determine that an attribute of an XML element is to be used as identifier for a paragraph in crossView.

  • The Project Wizard has been fully revised. For example, when creating a project, you can immediately see whether an MT configuration exists for this project.
  • In the Projects module, you can now see directly whether there are any attachments, comments, or problems for a project.
  • The project history in the project properties has been revised and made more detailed.
  • The Partition Wizard has been fully revised, and its settings have been simplified.
  • The possibility to configure word repetition settings has been removed. Instead, there is now one determined word repetition type.
  • crossTank packages are no longer transmitted to the Master Server. The translation units are stored directly from the returned tasks. crossTerm packages will continue to be transferred and automatically imported.
  • In crossGrid scenarios, user names are no longer transmitted.

  • The profile settings have been renamed to user settings.
  • You can now export and import regular expressions used in document settings templates.
  • Translation and Translation Environment
  • A new QM mode, QM mode v7, has been introduced. It can be configured easily and is very user-friendly.
  • In crossDesk, you can now concurrently open multiple tasks.
  • The comment function and the change history in crossDesk have been fully revised and simplified.
  • The integration of third-party MT systems has been revised. You can now create several configurations for each MT system in order to cover different application scenarios.
  • Terminology
  • crossTerm Now has again been fully revised. Depending on their rights, users can now log in and perform actions in crossTerm Now especially with regard to the new editing function and the terminology workflows.
