Creating Document Settings Templates

About Document Settings Templates

Using document settings templates, you can determine how Across is to handle files of various formats during check-in. This means that you can determine whether certain elements, styles, columns, images, etc. are to be displayed for translation or locked. You can also use regular expressions to define so-called placeables.

For the following instructions, you will be using a simple XML file in order to get to know the basic functionality of document settings.

This is how it works

  1. Opening the System Settings
  2. Selecting the Format
  3. Creating New Templates
  4. Defining Elements to Be Taken into Consideration
  5. Determining How the Elements Are to Be Handled
  6. Defining Placeables
  7. Finishing the Setup

Opening the System Settings

Go to Tools > System Settings > Document Settings. All file formats natively supported in Across are listed here.

Selecting the Format

Select the Tagged XML v2 format.

Creating New Templates

Click New and enter a name for the template, e.g. Test DST.

Defining Elements to Be Taken into Consideration

Click Load and select the XML file. In this way, all elements that exist in the file will be read out and listed.

Determining How the Elements Are to Be Handled

You can now determine how each of the elements is to be handled upon check-in. Distinction is made between internal and external elements. Internal elements are e.g. mark-ups within a text body, such as italics <i> and bold <b> in the example file. External elements are outside the text body and mark e.g. paragraphs.

By default, all elements for the example file are defined as External. Therefore, you merely need to adapt the element type for elements b and i. Double-click the element b; under Element type, select the option Internal. Confirm with OK. Repeat the action for the element i.

To store information about the area of the example file that a passage comes from in the TM, define structure attributes. Double-click the element p, activate the checkbox Map to structure attribute, and select Paragraph. Confirm with OK. Repeat the action for the elements h1 and h2, but select Heading instead.

Tip

For structure attributes to be taken into consideration during the pre-translation, you need to activate structure matches in the pre-translation settings in the respective project settings templates.

Defining Placeables

In order to protect the product name Across Language Server that appears in the example file, define it as a placeable. Go to the Placeables tab and click Add. Under Regular expression, enter the string Across Language Server and confirm with OK.

Finishing the Setup

Close the system settings or go to another area in order to finish the setup.
