The Across Concept

Across is a database-based translation management system that comprises all modules required for high-quality translations:

  • Project management
  • Translation environment
  • Quality management
  • Granular settings
  • Translation memory
  • Terminology

Following the installation, the databases are initially empty. They will gradually be populated with your translations, terminology, projects, etc. The bigger the translation database gets, the faster translations can be prepared, as many passages can be pre-translated. The terminology contributes to the correct use of individual terms, enhancing the quality of all your translations.

The Across Language Server is suitable for translation service providers and industrial enterprises, while the Across Translator Edition is intended for freelancers. The communication and exchange of data between servers and between the server and the Offline Client of the Translator Edition take place in a protected supply chain. Thus, your data are protected from unauthorized access.

Databases

By default, Across data are stored in the following databases:

Database
Description
Across
  • Repository e.g. for:
  • Projects
  • System settings
  • User rights
crossTank
Repository for translation units; basis for the translation memory in Across
crossTerm
Repository for terminology
Tip

In Across, attributes play a key role, as all translation units are stored in a single, central database. For example, attributes allocate translation units to a particular subject. This makes sure that the translations are stored in the right context and will only be available in this context.
