The following steps explain how a task is processed in Across. The instructions assume that you have created a local project with the example file. However, the procedure is virtually the same when you receive a task from a customer. The only difference is that you need to deliver the finished task.
Exploring the Translation Environment
After opening the task, you will be taken to crossDesk, the Across translation environment.
- You will find the following areas:
- crossView: Document navigation, QM, search, filter functions
- Context View: Display of the source and target texts alongside each other
- crossTerm: Display of terminology
- Target Editor: For the input of the translation
- Search Center: For searching the TM and any external sources
- Comments and Changes: Display of paragraph comments and the change history of the respective paragraph
Entering the Translation
The source text is divided into numbered paragraphs. The content of the element p of the example file has been split into individual sentences according to the DST.
Click a paragraph in the Context View and enter the translation in the Target Editor. Be sure to use the tags (i and b) and placeables (Across Language Server) in the translation as well.
Performing QM Checks
After you have translated all paragraphs, click in crossView in order to see the errors found by the QM check. To update the results, click CHECK ALL. If, for example, you forgot a tag in your translation, the XML validity criterion (which you defined as a mandatory criterion) will report an error. For test purposes, you can remove a tag in order to provoke an error in this criterion.
Setting Paragraphs to the Final Paragraph Status
If necessary, check your translations once more after the QM check before you set them to the final paragraph status. For example, you can do this by going through all paragraphs and pressing the keyboard shortcut Alt+R for each one of them. Alternatively, you can check all paragraphs and then set them to the final paragraph status in one go via Tools > Set All Paragraphs to > Translated.
In the Basic Edition of the ATE, you cannot check out the finished translation. For this, you need the Premium Edition.
After finishing the task in the Offline Client, the Deliver Task Wizard will be started automatically, enabling you to deliver the task to your customer.
