crossTerm Window in crossDesk

If the current paragraph in crossDesk contains words that are stored as terms in crossTerm, the detected source-language terms including their target-language correspondences will be displayed in the crossTerm window. In addition, the relevant terms will be highlighted with a red overline (icn_cDesk_source-view_term-hervorhebung) in the Context View.

Tip

If the term in the source text or target text matches the term in crossTerm, only the respective term will be displayed, and no variants of this term will be displayed. This means that e.g. the plural form of a term will not be displayed if the term occurs in the singular form in the source text or target text.

cDesk_cTerm

By default, unreleased target-language terms are displayed in gray type, and released terms in blue type.

Additional information can be displayed by means of tooltips. You can determine the information to be displayed in tooltips. The information to be displayed is set in a separate section of the crossTerm settings.

cDesk_cTerm_suche_indexwert_tooltip

Under Tools > System Settings > General > Project Settings Templates > crossTerm, you can determine that stopwords are not to be taken into consideration during the crossTerm search in crossDesk and are therefore not to be listed as hits.

Background: Sometimes, certain words may be defined both as terms and as stopwords. For example, the English word "Be" or "be" may represent the verb or the abbreviation for the chemical element beryllium. As a verb, it would be defined as stopword, while as the chemical element, it would be a specialized term, i.e. a crossTerm entry. If the source sentence contains the word "Be", this option allows you to determine whether or not "Be" is to be displayed as a hit in the crossTerm window.

Moreover, there are words that could result in unwanted search hits in the crossTerm window and that may occur frequently in a certain language. For example, this could be the case with the German word "sich", which the stemming could identify as a word form of "sicher". Activate this option to make sure that these words are not displayed as hits in the crossTerm window. For this, you first need to define the particular words as stopwords in the respective language.

Inserting Terminology

  • Matching terms can be inserted in the translation in various ways:
  • Move the cursor to the position where you want to insert the term and double-click the respective term.
  • Via the icn_cDesk_search-center_cTerm_match-term-anwenden icon in the crossTerm window.
  • Via keyboard shortcuts.

Manual search

By default, Across searches for terms in crossTerm that occur in the current segment or paragraph. Apart from this automatic search, it is also possible to manually search for terms in crossTerm, regardless of whether these occur in the current segment or paragraph. To do so, enter the term you want to search for in the input field and perform the search by clicking the icn_cDesk_cTerm_suche icon.

Apart from this manual search for terms, it is also possible to search for index values. To do this, use the right area of the icn_cDesk_cTerm_suche icon to select the index in which you want to search for a value.

Subsequently, you can enter the index value you want to search for in the field and start the search by clicking the icn_cDesk_search-center_suche icon.

For the manual search for terms and index values, you can also use the asterisk *, which represents any character sequence.
