Relay Translations
If a document needs to be translated in a language pair and direction (e.g., German - Chinese) for which no translator is available (at present), the relay function can be used. For this purpose, the document is first translated into a language for which a translator is available (e.g., German - English), and then from the intermediate language to the target language (e.g., English - Chinese).
The relay translator can work in sync with the progress of the intermediate language and deliver his result almost simultaneously with the other languages.
Relay translations can comprise languages as well as sublanguages. In the field of software development, for example, relay translations are common in that the source text is often first "translated" from an uncorrected version to a corrected version and then to another language (e.g. German (uncorrected) → German (Germany) → English).
- In the case of a relay translation, TM entries are created for the following language pairs:
- Source language - relay language
- Relay language - target language
No TM entries are created for the language pair source language - target language.
For further information, please consult your contact at Across Systems GmbH.
General information on Across services is available at www.across.net/en/services/.
Please note that for relay translations, the reports are also created on the basis of the source language, not on the basis of the relay language. This means that for a relay translation German → English → Chinese, German will be used as source language for the report.
Therefore, it may be necessary to check out the finished translation of the relay language and then check it in again as source document (for the translation to Chinese).
