crossTransform
crossTransform enables the support of various formats via the automated use of plugins. During the check-in process, the corresponding files are converted in a format natively supported by Across (e.g. XML) in the background. The processing is then carried out in Across in the usual manner. During the check-out process, the files are automatically converted back to their original format.
By default, crossTransform plugins and respective document settings templates are available for the following formats:
- Processing as Visual XML:
- Adobe InDesign (INX format)
- Adobe InCopy (in INCX format)
- Configuration files (INI files)
- Windows Installer (MSI files)
- Portable Object (PO files)
- .NET RESX files (RESX files)
- XHTML files
- Processing as Tagged XML:
- Adobe InDesign (INX format)
- Adobe InCopy (in INCX format)
- Android string resources
- BlackBerry string resources
- iPhone string resources
- Processing as Tagged XML v2:
- JSON Text (JSON files)
- Portable Object (PO files)
- YAML (YAML files)
- Processing as Tagged HTML:
- QuarkXPress (TAG or XTG format)
You can configure crossTransform under Tools > System Settings > Document Settings > Documents Associations.
Important Notes
- To prevent the default templates for processing the files with crossTransform from being damaged or functionally impaired by faulty adaptations etc., these are write-protected and therefore cannot be adapted. If you still want to edit the templates, you can first export it and then re-import it using the respective buttons. These re-imported templates are no longer write-protected and can be processed.
- You may need to edit the documents processed with crossTransform after check-out.
- Adobe InDesign and InCopy documents can be edited with crossTransform only in the XML-based interchange formats, INX and INCX respectively.
- Contents from QuarkXPress documents must first be exported in the TAG or XTG format in QuarkXPress.
- Tip
One advantage of the TAG format over the XTG format is that the entire text of a QuarkXPress document is stored in a single TAG file. Also, the TAG format stores additional information, e.g. information on processing anchored text frames.
Special tools such as CopyFlow Gold for QuarkXPress from NAPS facilitate the export and subsequent re-import of QuarkXPress documents in the TAG and XTG format.
