Search
Searching for Entries/Terms
The crossTerm Web search bar offers various options for quickly finding entries and terms. Use the alphabetic search bar on the left to show terminology starting with a certain letter or a number (123).
The source and target language selection restricts the search to the respective languages.
The search in crossTerm Web is not case-sensitive. This ensures that terms are found regardless of their upper-case or lower-case spelling.
To conduct free search queries – i.e. search queries in which you search for any entries or terms – simply start a search without entering text or a placeholder in the input field for the search queries.
Search Types
The crossTerm Web offers various search types for the purpose of systematically finding entries or terms. The search type can be selected by means of the drop-down list under the input field of the search.
- The following search types are available:
- Term search
- Entry search
- Keyword search in definitions
- Concordance search
- Suggestion search (when using the crossTerm Web suggestion module and with needed user group rights)
Display of Search Suggestions
For the term search in crossTerm Web, auto-completion of search queries by means of search suggestions can be used. These suggestions are supplied by the search history and are thus based on previously entered search queries. The suggestions are displayed chronologically and from the first character entered.
The auto-completion of search queries is also available in all other search modes of crossTerm.
In addition, in the term search, a type-ahead search is also available.
The suggestion list saves up to 100 recent search queries, up to 10 of which are displayed. The suggestions are saved separately for each search mode. Moreover, the search queries are saved separately for each user and for each language direction.
The search queries are stored by means of a cookie. In this way, search queries can be stored individually even when using crossTerm Web Anonymous.
Type-Ahead Search
The type-ahead search is based on the existing termbase. As soon as the first letter of a term that is being searched for is entered, the search is performed in crossTerm. If terms that match the entered letters of the searched term are found, they will immediately be displayed as search suggestions.
In the term search, search suggestions are thus displayed on the basis of the search history and on the basis of the termbase. The search suggestions are displayed in a separate list. A maximum of 10 suggestions are displayed at a time.
