Editing Segments
Quite often, a sentence in the source language corresponds to two or even more sentences in the target language. In these cases, the length of the translation segment must be modified to ensure correct transfer to crossTank.
For example, if you wish to render one sentence in the source language by two sentences in the target language, the target language segment must be expanded accordingly by one sentence.
1 Sentence in the Source Language/2 Sentences in the Target Language
In the following example, there are two sentences in the target language. In the default setting, each sentence constitutes one segment. The end of a segment is marked by a light blue mark (
) on the final character.
If you wish to join these two segments to one segment, place the cursor in the second sentence and click the 
icon in the Target Editor toolbar.
The first end-of-segment mark disappears, and the two segments have now merged into one segment.
If required, you may also make two separate segments from one segment consisting of two sentences using the 
icon in the Target Editor toolbar.

2 Sentences in the Source Language/1 Sentence in the Target Language
If, on the other hand, you wish to render two sentences in the source language by one sentence in the target language, the source language sentences must consequently be merged onto one single segment.
In the following example the source language segment consists of just one sentence. The first source language sentence is correspondingly active - and hence is shown in black - while the second sentence is inactive and is shown in gray.
Now place the cursor in the Target Editor in the target-language sentence that represents the translation of the two source-language sentences and click the 
icon in the Source View toolbar. The source language segment will be expanded by one sentence.
Both source-language sentences are now active. The source-language segment now includes two sentences.
If required, you may make two separate segments from a single segment consisting of two sentences by using the 
icon in the Source View toolbar.

Defining segments
Furthermore, you can use 
icon in the toolbar of the Context View and of the Target Editor to define any selected text area as a segment.
In the following example, the first line of the paragraph is to be defined as a segment:
For this purpose, the text needs to be selected:
Click the icon to define the selected text as segment:
You can also define selected text areas in the Target Editor as segments by means of the shortcut key Ctrl+Alt+U.
