Users
The users available in Across are managed in the Users module. For example, you can create new users here.
While creating a new user, you can define individual properties of the new user, such as his Across login details and the language combinations he works with. Additionally, you can define which basic rights the user is to be granted in Across. You can also determine whether the new user is an online or an offline user and which group the user belongs to.
New users are generated via the User Wizard, which is started via New in the Users module.
Online Users and Offline Users
Depending on the type of access a user has to the Across Server, distinction is made between online and offline users:
- Online users access the Across Server directly via the local network (LAN). The data exchange between the Client of an online user and the Across Server takes places directly. For example, online users can access both the crossTank and crossTerm data in real time. Moreover, the data that an online user creates, such as translations entered in the Target Editor or created crossTank entries, are not buffered locally but are stored directly in the database.
- Offline users work outside the LAN and only have indirect access to the Across Server. For this purpose, they connect to the Server temporarily over the Internet. The data exchange between the Client of an offline user and the Across Server takes place indirectly: The data and information required for processing tasks on the offline user's side, e.g. crossTank and crossTerm entries provided along with the source document, are made available for download in the form of a work package. In turn, the data created by the offline user while processing the tasks are transmitted to the Across Server in the form of a response package.
While as a matter of principle, online users can belong to all user groups, offline users cannot exercise any project management functions (project management and document preparation tasks) and cannot perform term extraction. However, they can perform all other task types (e.g. term and document translation, correction and review tasks).
If you have the required license, during the creation of Across users you can select the Windows authentication instead of the regular login via the Across login dialog box with user name and, if applicable, password. The authentication of the user then takes place in the background via the Windows user administration.
