System Settings: DST > Windows Resources
Windows resource files usually contain elements (e.g. wildcards, company and product names, etc.) that must be neither translated nor omitted in the target text. If this requirement is neglected, the Windows resource file may not work properly. To prevent these elements from being translated or omitted, they can be displayed as placeable in crossDesk, i.e. in the form of gray fields that cannot be modified but only copied to the target text. The QM criterion Placeables usage can be used to check whether the number of fields used in the source and target text paragraphs is identical.
The definition of those elements that should be displayed as placeable is carried out in templates that are selected when the project is being set up.
General tab
On the General tab you can define which elements and areas of the Windows resource file should be displayed as "placeable" in crossDesk.
By clicking Add you can add a style to the currently selected template and can define that this style is displayed as a placeable in crossDesk.
Each style must be entered in round brackets. In order to create the company name Across Systems GmbH as a style displayed as a placeable in crossDesk you have to enter the name (Across Systems GmbH) in the Content field.
You can also define the styles by the use of regular expressions. These must also appear in round brackets. The wildcards %1 and %2 could be, for instance, rendered as (%[12]).
The Advanced Button
Via Advanced you can specify how the strings with the key combinations and the information on the latest release will be displayed in crossDesk. This information often requires no translation or may not be translated and can, for instance, be set to Ignored, in order to save system resources when checking in.
Moreover, you can determine the processing of MC files. Using the option Remove source language in target language you can determine that when checking out the translation, the source language is to be retained in the document, thereby delivering a multilingual file, or that it is to be removed from the target document, thereby delivering a monolingual document containing only the target language.
The following example demonstrates the effects of the option on the basis of an MC document translated from English to German:
Checked-out MC Document without activated option Remove source language in target document.
During the check-out process, the source language was not removed from the document. Thus, the document contains both the source language English and the target language German.
Checked-out MC Document with activated option Remove source language in target document.
During the check-out process, the source language was removed from the document. Thus, the document contains only the target language German.
