MC Documents
The MC format (Message Compiler) is especially relevant in the field of software development.
The MC files are now natively supported by Across, which means that the files are checked in as such, that is without being converted into another format, then processed in Across, and finally checked out from Across in MC format.
- Across supports MC files encoded in:
- ANSI
- Unicode
- UTF-8
You can configure the processing of MC files in the advanced settings of the document templates of Microsoft resources under Tools > System Settings > Document Settings > Windows resources.
Using the option Remove source language in target document you can determine that when checking out the translation, the source language is to be retained in the document, thereby delivering a multilingual file, or that the source language is to be removed from the target document, thereby delivering a monolingual document containing only the target language. The usage of this option depends on the corresponding application in which the MC document is embedded.
Apart from pure MC files, other files such as DLL files may also contain message compiler contents. If this is the case, you can check in the respective file in Across as a DLL file as usual. The message compiler contents will also be imported and displayed as such in crossView:
Example
The following example demonstrates the effects of the option on the basis of an MC document translated from English to German:
Checked-out MC document with deactivated option Remove source language in target document.
During the check-out process, the source language was not removed from the document. Thus, the document contains both the source language English and the target language German.
Checked-out MC document with activated option Remove source language in target document.
During the check-out process, the source language was removed from the document. Thus, the document contains only the target language German.
