Missing Fonts

To make sure that the contents of documents are displayed correctly in Across, the contained fonts should exist in the Across database and be installed on the respective computer.

If the Across database does not contain a particular font, a substitute font will be used to display the respective contents in crossDesk. Due to the use of the substitute font, the appearance of the content changes. Moreover, display problems may occur if the substitute font cannot display characters of the missing font correctly or not at all. This may be the case particularly if the missing font is a user-defined font with custom characters.

If the missing fonts are not installed on the respective computer, display problems may occur when creating previews, namely if an external application like MS Word is used for the preview. As the font is not installed on the computer, the external application will usually use a substitute font instead of the missing font – which may also cause display problems if the substitute font cannot display characters of the missing font correctly or not at all.

Substitute fonts are only used temporarily and for display purposes in crossDesk. A missing font is not actually replaced, i.e. the original font will continue to be used after the document is checked out.
