Localizing Display Texts in crossDesk Web
When localizing display texts in crossDesk Web, each display text element is displayed in a separate paragraph. The Across Server centrally checks the correct text lengths. For this purpose, the crossWeb client automatically sends queries to the Across Server during the localization of a display text element. The Across Server reviews both the source-language paragraph and the target-language paragraph, examining whether the texts fit into the respective display text element. Subsequently, the result of the check is transmitted to the crossWeb client.
In the Context View, the result of the text length check is displayed with the help of green and red marks to the left of the source and target-language paragraphs. A green mark indicates compliance with the prescribed text length, while a red mark indicates non-compliance:
For the localization of display texts, the Target Editor comprises two areas: The left-hand area serves the normal input of the translation of the display text element. The right-hand area shows a WYSIWYG preview of the translated display text element. This preview is generated by the Across Server using the original font and sent to the crossWeb client:
Any excess text is highlighted in red in the left-hand area of the Target Editor. In the WYSIWYG preview in the right-hand area of the Target Editor, a box visualizes the available size of the display text element: A green box indicates compliance with the prescribed size, while a red box indicates non-compliance.
The fonts used in the display texts do not need to be installed locally on the crossWeb client, as the WYSIWYG preview on the right-hand side of the Target Editor renders the respective display text element with the original fonts. It is sufficient for the original fonts to be installed once on the Across Server.
Support of comments in the source text: Display-text resources may contain comments that contain details or meta-information on the respective text string. These comments in the source text of the display-text resources to be localized are displayed in the Source View of crossDesk Web:
The settings of the DTXML files specify if line breaks within the display text elements should be inserted manually or if they are inserted automatically.
By default, paragraph segmentation is used for the localization of display texts. This ensures that display elements consisting of several segments are fully translated.
QM check
To check the correct length of the display texts, a special QM criterion is now available: Display texts text bounds. The criterion checks whether the localized display texts comply with the required text lengths.
In the following example, the translation does not comply with the required text length. Therefore, the QM criterion indicates an error:
