Joining Paragraphs

Across enables the joining of paragraphs in crossDesk. This is especially useful if, for example, the source documents are poorly formatted and contain wrong or superfluous line breaks, e.g. in a Word document. Additionally, the ability to join paragraphs is useful if the source and target languages use different conventions in terms of the document layout.

Tip

Basically, the joining of paragraphs is available for all supported document formats. This does not apply to Windows and .NET resources, as these formats do not require paragraphs to be joined.

To join two paragraphs, the paragraphs to be joined must occur in the same structure tree branch of crossView, i.e. they must have the same basic structure (e.g. the same styles or formatting in Word documents). For example, two normal paragraphs can be joined, but not a heading with a normal paragraph.

Moreover, paragraphs containing placeables cannot be joined.

When translating ML documents (HTML, SGML, XML), it is possible to join paragraphs with different external elements, e.g. to correct wrong settings in the document settings templates (e.g. if internal elements are wrongly defined as external elements).

  1. Proceed as follows:
  2. Select the respective paragraphs in the Source View via multiple selection.
  3. In the context menu, click Join Selected Paragraphs.
  4. The result is a single, joined paragraph.

    Tip

The joining of paragraphs only affects the translation. Though the paragraphs of the source text are visually joined in crossDesk, the actual source text is not changed.

If necessary, the joining of paragraphs can be undone via the context menu of the Source View.
