Homographs
In terminology management systems, homographs are defined as terms that are spelled identically but that have different meanings or denote different concepts. Thus, the definition is different from the definition of homographs e.g. in linguistics.
The creation of a homograph may represent a deliberate decision, but may also have taken place mistakenly because it was not known that the term already existed in crossTerm.
For example, when creating a new entry in the crossTerm Manager, a dialog will alert you if the term that you want to create already exists. Thus, you can decide whether to join the new entry with the existing entry or create a new entry, i.e. a homograph.
In the crossTerm Manager interface, you can identify homographs from the or
icon that is displayed next to the ID of the respective entry, by means of which you can go to the entry containing the homograph. Moreover, a link that also takes you to the other homograph is displayed next to the term that represents a homograph.
You can search for homographs systematically using the quick filter bearing the same name. In the term/result list, homographs are displayed below each other.
