Encoding of XML Documents
If the source files to be processed via Tagged XML are not encoded in UTF-8 or UTF-16, it may be necessary to change the encoding of the target documents in order to ensure correct display of all characters. For such cases, it is possible to determine the encoding to be used for the target documents.
- You can choose:
- that the correct encoding can be auto-detected by Across,
- that the encoding of the source document can be used in the target document, or
- that a particular encoding should be used (it can be selected from a drop-down list).
The option for defining the encoding is available in the Tagged XML document settings templates under Tools > System Settings > Document Settings > Tagged XML > Configure > Advanced.
Please note that Across does not support source files that are processed with Tagged XML and that have the "UTF-16 Big Endian" encoding.
If the source files to be processed via Visual XML are encoded in a limited character set (e.g. ISO), it may be necessary to change the encoding of the target documents in order to ensure correct display of all characters. Across automatically detects whether the encoding of the target documents should be adjusted and, if necessary, changes it automatically in UTF-16 during the check-out.
