Cross-References
To reference another term, e.g. in a definition, you can create cross-references. Cross-references to other terms can be inserted in every text field, both at entry level and at term level.
You can insert cross-references to terms using the context menu of text fields. To do this, select the term you want to refer to. Finally, right-click to open the context menu.
You can choose between a language-dependent or a language-independent cross-reference (or an index cross-reference).
The language-independent cross-reference refers to a term available in the language of the selected term. Thus, the language of the selected term (or the source language selected in the crossTerm Manager) and the language of the term referred to must match.
Selection of the language-dependent cross-reference also requires the selection of the language of the target term.
After editing (and saving) the text field, the cross-reference is implemented as a link (blue and underlined); if you click the cross-reference, crossTerm will automatically go to the respective term.
You can also insert a cross-reference in a text field by embracing the cross-reference target – i.e. the term you want to point to – with two ^ characters (circumflex). The following example references the term automobile: "See ^automobile^."
Please note that the cross-references inserted manually will only work if the language of the current term and the language of the referenced term match. To reference a term in another language, insert the LCID of the language after the target term in the following way: ^Term{LCID=XXXX}^ (e.g. "Also see ^Fahrzeug{LCID=1033}^.") (LCID stands for locale identifier, a unique ID assigned to each language. For example, German (Germany) has the LCID 1031 and English (USA) the LCID 1033.)
Please note that only cross-references to term in the same crossTerm instance can be created. Cross-references to terms of other instances cannot be created at the moment.
