CIKLOPEA Supplements Service Portfolio with the Across Language Server

With the Across Language Server, we have achieved better control over the entire production cycle of translations, and we have optimized our time and quality assurance management.

CIKLOPEA is considered to be an organisation ready for the future and new challenges

In 2013, CIKLOPEA celebrated its tenth business anniversary as one of the leading translation and localisation companies in the region of South East Europe. Today CIKLOPEA is a modern, 21st century company with top quality employees, which implements top industry standards in terms of quality processes and information security, and uses the latest technology.

Starting Point

The range of services includes certified translations, text review and correction services, checking and assurance of the linguistic quality, simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, and consulting services in connection with the translation process and the further education of translators. CIKLOPEA has offices in Zagreb and Rijeka, Croatia. Its 10 in-house translators, 15 external language service providers, and more than 30 freelancers mainly translate German and English texts to Balkan languages like Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian, Macedonian, Albanian, but also Bulgarian,  Romanian, Ukrainian and Russian. The translations are prepared by native speakers of the target languages who are specialized in the respective subject area. The yearly translation volume amounts to more than 12,000,000 words. All projects comprise the “translation”, “editing”, and “proofreading” stages (TEP).

To maximize the translation quality, CIKLOPEA has implemented a comprehensive, multi-stage process involving the translators, editors, reviewers, and correctors. Within the scope of this process, the texts are checked for a total of 16 criteria. Thanks to the QA in Across the reviewing process has been accelerated. There are no longer missing translations and segments with wrong terminology when there is a crossTerm entry. A great advantage is also the function that the PM can decide in advance which options should be checked. In its capacity as a classic translator, CIKLOPEA has already been using Across since 2008. For this work, CIKLOPEA used to get the login details for its team members to log in to the customer’s installed Across Language Server.

Expansion of the Service Offer

The idea of establishing an internal Across Language Server came up because customers approached CIKLOPEA with the request to process translation tasks directly with the language platform for all language resources and translation processes. In Across, all projects are centrally managed in a shared work environment, regardless of the file format or language. Thanks to the intuitive workflow control, project managers can define automated release processes and distribute tasks. “In this way, we are able to offer our customers a one-stop service comprising not only the translation, but also the project, user, and soft-key management, as well as all other functions delivered by the Across Language Server,” explains Mladen Stojak, Managing Director at CIKLOPEA.

Simplified Communication

Initially, CIKLOPEA used Across technology in the form of the Subcontractor Edition. In view of the growing number of customers who also used Across, the company eventually switched to the LSP Edition. The scalable editions concept of Across allows for gradual adaptation of the software to growing needs. The Subcontractor and LSP Editions are special editions of the Across Language Server that are tuned to the needs of language service providers. With these editions, the company can generate its own server certificates. Direct server-to-server interaction takes place over crossGrid, thereby greatly facilitating the data exchange between the customer and CIKLOPEA. On the other hand, this functionality makes it much easier for the language service provider to forward the data to his subcontractors. “Freelance translators can get a free-of-charge freelance license for Across, which is not possible with other software,” observes Stojak. Depending on the assignment, freelancers can thus assume the role of the translator, corrector, reviewer, or terminologist. Following the translation, which is stored directly on the server, it is checked by a linguist.

The project manager (who is also responsible for the final quality assurance prior to the delivery) handles and monitors the entire process including the translation status and the release directly on the server. After all the tasks are finished, Across automatically checks out the project and uploads the data back to the customer’s server. “CIKLOPEA is considered to be an orga-nisation ready for the future and new challenges due to all the prerequisites necessary for further growth and development. With the Across Language Server, we have achieved better control over the entire production cycle of translations, and we have optimized our time and quality assurance management,” says Mladen Stojak. “ We have invested in a timely manner, and now have all the necessary resources: People, Processes, and Technology. We are confident that we will gain further customers, especially from the IT and medical industries.”
