Through the introduction of the Across Language Server and the connection to our content management systems, we have fully integrated our company's translation process of 28 languages in the IT infrastructure. The connection to SAP Hybris and TYPO3 makes sure that our product data are always up to date in all languages. We have been able to reduce the manual overhead in the process to a minimum. By means of the workflow, we ensure a high translation quality.
Christian Hurth, Head of Marketing Communications
wolfcraft GmbH is one of the leading companies in the German do-it-yourself industry. Established back in the 1950s, wolfcraft offers tool and power tool accessories that are mainly offered in specialized and DIY stores. Meanwhile, the company has more than 600 employees, a product portfolio of more than 3,000 items, and an export share that has increased to 65 percent. The company has locations in Germany, Slovakia, France, Spain, Italy, and Austria.
To operate successfully in overseas markets, wolfcraft wanted its product texts, user manuals, master data, advertising brochures, videos, and other material to be available in a total of 28 languages. The translations are handled by the language service provider Lionbridge.
For the automated processing of the translation workflow, wolfcraft decided to introduce a translation management system. One key aspect was to full integrate the system in the existing IT infrastructure. This especially included the product information management system SAP Hybris
and the content management system TYPO3, the main systems in which translation-relevant content is created. Across Systems GmbH, the manufacturer of the Across Language Server, had what wolfcraft was looking for. The translation management system has plugins that enable the seamless connection to SAP Hybris and TYPO3. Another factor in favor of Across was that the entire translation process can be mapped to the system, and the software comprises easy project management functionality. The benefit of the latter is that the employees always have an overview of the status of translation and review jobs. Moreover, the Across Language Server provides full control over the translation volume, which results in more transparency.
Professional Project Support and Training
Following the decision in favor of Across, the software was implemented with the professional assistance of the manufacturer. The employees of Across were also the ones who professionally managed the associated project. Christian Hurth, Head of Marketing Communications of wolfcraft GmbH, says: 'At the bottom line, we are very satisfied with the services of the Across team. With his experience and expertise as well as his cooperative, friendly approach, project manager Stefan Diessner had a highly positive impact on the project.' External service providers took care of the connection of the Across Language Server to the existing systems. These were loctimize, which took care of the integration of TYPO3, and itelligence, which handled the installation of the SAP Hybris plugin together with the Across team. Thereafter, the wolfcraft employees from the fields of administration, project management, and review – who were involved in the translation process – were duly trained. Within a short period, the Across trainer conveyed a lot of knowledge about the handling of the translation management system to the participants.
Full Integration in the System Landscape
Today, wolfcraft manages its entire translation workflow from the order placement to the translation, review, and release. By way of the interfaces to the CMS and PIM system, the entire workflow has been integrated in the wolfcraft system landscape. Distinction can be made between automated and manual translation orders. When translating product data from SAP Hybris or web page content from TYPO3, the volume is determined by Across at defined intervals and automatically transmitted to the workflow. Subsequently, the project manager triggers the translation. The entire process – which includes the analysis of matches, the translation, the review, the correction, and the handover – is managed with the Across Language Server. In addition to these automated orders, the project manager manually imports other texts that need to be translated to the Across Language Server. These are usually Office documents. The subsequent process proceeds in the same way as for automated orders. In all projects, the language server Lionbridge and the review staff at wolfcraft's subsidiaries are directly integrated in the process.
