The Case Study of SMA Solar Technology
A major launch of overseas promotion in 2004 led SMA, the world's largest manufacturer of solar inverters, to experience exponential growth in the demand for translations.
SMA Solar Technology was established in 1981 and has become the world‘s largest manufacturer of solar inverters – central components of any solar power plant. The group has subsidiaries in nine countries on four continents and employs more than 4,000 people.
The company needs documentation, marketing, and sales materials in nine different languages including Chinese, Korean, and Greek. Every year, the company initiates about 3,000 translation projects involving operating and installation manuals, marketing documents, and full product catalogs of up to 200 pages. Moreover, it works with approximately 20 external translation service providers and has its own pool of in-house translators as well as a group of freelance translators.
With the help of Across language technology, the company gained seamless processes, central data storage, and transparent project control. More importantly, SMA boosted the quality of its multilingual content by increasing the consistency of its specialized terminology and reducing the time-to-market tremendously, by means of accelerated processes.
