First Across User Conference Surpasses ExpectationsUsers present seamless translation management and optimized processes on the basis of the Across Language Server KARLSBAD – March 19, 2008 - More than 170 participants attended the first German-language user conference of Across Systems GmbH, which was held a few days ago in Cologne, Germany. The event presented detailed hands-on information about the use of the Across Language Server, a software platform for all corporate language resources and translation processes. Keynote speaker Daniel Grasmick, who had been responsible for language technology at SAP for many years, talked about "Globalization and Languages: Globalization and Languages: Is it Like Herding Cats?" "A great success", says Niko Henschen, CEO of Across Systems GmbH. "The number of registrations was higher than we could accommodate. There is an enormous interest in our technology. We have brought the idea of the 'linguistic supply chain' to life and are now the world's leading independent provider in this area." Companies that export their products to other countries depend on efficient translation management processes. The availability of manuals, instructions, and information about the product in the local language is a vital prerequisite for sales success and a legal requirement. In this field, there is a vast untapped potential for optimization and cost savings. At the Across conference, Across partners and integrators presented a variety of application scenarios demonstrating how they realize efficient translation workflows on the basis of the Language Server and integrate them in corresponding corporate processes. The conference also featured an exhibition zone where Across partners put their solutions and services on display. Comments of ParticipantsJürg Altwegg, Burckhardt Compression AG: "We all agree that Across is a good product. Nevertheless, as is the case with any other software, there are some issues that could be improved. In this regard, the user conference provided a convenient setting for open exchange and informally establishing contacts, especially with other users." Thoralf Bock, Henkel AG: "We want to learn more about the seminal subject of computer-aided translation. The event was interesting and offered many opportunities for genuine exchange of knowledge. It would be nice if individual user groups would form in addition to the conference. The time seems to be ripe for this. I am already looking forward to the next conference." Michael Leifeld, Polysius AG: "I was mainly curious about the presentation of the new version 4.0. I had been waiting for the crossAuthor connection to XMetaL for a long time. As long-standing users, we have always been very satisfied with Across and believe in their concept." Joachim Mohr, ELAU AG, a Schneider Electric company: "A user meeting should provide opportunity for exchange of experience, and this was definitely the case." Professor Dr. Hans Schwarz, Magdeburg-Stendal University, Department of Communication and Media: "I found it interesting to see Across in action in its various fields of deployment. In terms of width and depth, this event complemented the talks with the Across staff in an excellent way. We were especially curious about the new features of version 4.0 of the Across Language Server."
