W

WAN (Wide Area Network)

A network that usually connects several LANs across large distances, for instance, a network that connects several branches of a company in a country.

Wizard

Automatic assistant in a software that guides the user through the individual steps required to execute certain program operations.

WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)

While being processed, a document looks exactly the same on the computer screen as it does when displayed via another device, e.g. a printer.

X

XML attribute

In XML,  a designation that represents a combination of a name and value and is used to provide additional information about an XML element, for example, <FONT SIZE=2>. In this case, FONT is an element and SIZE=2 is an attribute.

XML element

Information unit within an XML document consisting of a start tag, an end tag, the content between the tags, and any XML attributes.

XML format (Extensible Markup Language)

Standardized markup language used in content management systems, databases, etc. XML is also often used as an exchange format between various applications.

XPath

XPath (XML Path Language) is a language used to address parts of an ML document. It can be used to address specific nodes of these documents.

XSLT

The abbreviation XSLT stands for "eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformation". XSLTs enable the conversion of XML documents to other XML structures or output formats. The XSLTs define how the conversion is to be performed. In Across, XSLTs can be used for the customization of reports.
