Minimizing Subsequent Translation Costs with crossAuthor While Writing the Source Text

KARLSBAD – January 28, 2008 - "Translation-oriented authoring" is the subject of this year's CeBIT presentation (hall 3/booth C65) of Across Systems GmbH. The specialist for system-based translation management will present its authoring solution that effectively supports users while creating multilingual contents. Thus, enterprises and organizations operating on an international scale can establish the basis for speedy, cost-efficient translations to the respective target languages even while creating manuals, marketing documents, etc.
A variety of plugins for all relevant source-text editors, such as Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, and Just XMetaL, are available for crossAuthor, enabling users to fully exploit the benefits of the high-performance authoring solution in their accustomed working environment.

crossAuthor is an option for the Across Language Server – an integrated platform for all corporate language resources and translation processes. The authoring solution is based on the concept of recycling existing language resources. While the author writes the source text, the system displays wording and text proposals that are stored in the Across translation memory and terminology system. These proposals can be adopted with a mouse click. Alternatively, crossAuthor can be used to review a text that has already been written. As foreign-language translations already exist for recycled wording, this approach not only optimizes the text quality, but also drastically reduces the subsequent translation workload.

"Maximum efficiency for the creation of multilingual contents starts with the source text", explains Andreas Dürr, Marketing Director of Across Systems GmbH. "For example, if the source text uses 20 different renderings for 10 technical terms – e.g., "hard drive" in one text and "hard disk" in another – translations into 10 languages would result in
