Volkswagen Implements Language Server of Across SystemsCorporation-wide system change streamlines processes for creation of multilingual product information for foreign markets Glendale, Calif. and Karlsbad, Germany – July 31, 2008. The Volkswagen Group, which markets its vehicles in more than 150 countries, will implement the Across Language Server as a corporate platform for all language resources and translation processes in the customer service division. Volkswagen’s production rate of foreign language versions of user guides and service literature counts among the highest in the industry worldwide. In order to further optimize processes for creation of multilingual product information, Volkswagen has decided to switch the technology and to opt for Across. This will benefit all the corporate brands, including Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen commercial vehicles. As a central software platform, the Across Language Server enables the integration of internal departments, external language service providers and freelance translators in a cohesive system. On top of that, efficiency will be boosted by direct connection of Volkswagen's editorial system to the Language Server as well as a Web portal to be used by staff members and service providers for direct access to centrally stored corporate terminology. The ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH, an IT service provider of Volkswagen, will implement a comprehensive corporate solution based on the Across Language Server, to provide a high degree of integration and automation during the adaptation of product information for foreign markets. This approach guarantees a high degree of process security and consistency as well as short processing time and minimal costs, despite a high outsourcing rate and constant content changes. The Across Language Server enables Volkswagen to realize a seamless linguistic supply chain that spans content creation, translation, quality assurance and delivery of finalized foreign language content to the corresponding systems. Smooth workflows and process automation enhance cost reduction and quick availability of, for example, user manuals for foreign markets. "Volkswagen and other corporate brands are positioned globally. Thanks to a multitude of product and equipment variants of our vehicles on the one hand, and a variety of target markets and target languages on the other, international product information is of strategic importance for us," explains Maximilian Schreiner, leading project manager. “By opting for the Across Language Server, we are well equipped for growing demands in this sector." |
