Kern AG Offers Customers Integrated Software-Supported Terminology Solutions

Global language service provider opts for the Across Language Server

FRANKFURT and KARLSBAD, Germany and GLENDALE, Calif. – February, 2008 – Leading language services provider, Kern AG, headquartered in Frankfurt, is expanding its partnership with technology provider Across Systems GmbH. Kern AG is now deploying the Across software platform, Across Language Server, for customized terminology management, improving translation process control and making language resources centrally accessible for its customers.

Kern AG is an international provider of language services with more than 40 offices throughout Europe, America and Asia. Its wide range of services include translation and interpretation for all mainstream languages, as well as localization, technical editing and proofreading, multilingual desktop publishing, international typesetting and language courses.

For translation services, standardization of specialized and corporate terminology is a recurring challenge. The use of different terms for the same concept - e.g., "hard drive" in one text and "hard disk" in another - impairs text quality and generates enormous extra costs. To eliminate these challenges and efficiently manage terminology, Kern AG will use the Across Language Server, a software platform that provides seamless management of translation processes and central access to language resources. Now translators and editors at Kern, as well as technical departments and support personnel of customers, will have access to approved corporate terminology through a single interface.

"Kern AG has a diverse network of locations and employees. Therefore, efficient workflows are an important success factor for our company,” says Manfred Kern, CEO of Kern AG. "The Across technology enables networking and provides an ideal foundation for optimizing translation workflows, resulting in tangible added value to our customers."

To enhance value, Kern AG provides its customers with browser-based access to the terminology system crossTerm by means of crossTerm Web. In this way, technical departments within the customer company can access the terminology databases specifically maintained for them, using a standard web browser without the need for their own Across software.

The Across Language Server is developed and manufactured by Across Systems GmbH, a spin-off of Nero AG. "Due to the significant growth of international business relations, corporations require fast, cost-efficient and high-quality translations more than ever,” says Niko Henschen, CEO of Across Systems. "Companies such as Kern AG see the connection between their customers and these processes as an opportunity, not as a threat to their business."
