Across v5:
Language Technology Meets Business Intelligence
Summary
With the next generation product v5, Across introduces a great deal of new technology and adapts methods of Business Intelligence for language technology.
With Across v5, companies operating at an international level gain greater control of all their valuable language resources and of the management of complex translation processes - also and even if translations are delegated to external service providers.
Across is deploying the concepts of Business Intelligence for usage in multi-language documents and content. The most important new features of the next generation product Across v5 include functions for process automation, generation of informative reports as well as re-use of valuable language resources.
New: crossAutomate for Process Automation
crossAutomate enables setup of almost any automatic processes desired, such as:
- Transmission of notices to specified persons when deadlines are missed for certain process steps
- Assignment of jobs to language service providers, depending on type of text and language direction
- Delivery of final translations to interacting systems and archiving of project data.
Customized setup of automatic processes is usually handled by the Across Professional Services Division; proposals are based on the particular customer's individual requirements.
New: crossMining for Getting the Best Use out of Your Valuable Language Resources
crossMining uses algorithms from statistical machine translation to get the most use out of your language resources, going far beyond what is achieved with conventional translation memory technologies.
One of the most important applications is intelligent automatic completion of sentences during translation, based on the source text and the key strokes entered by the translator. This feature not only saves time, but also prevents errors. Another application is "term harvesting," i.e., extraction of potentially matching terms in two languages and entry of these terms in the terminology database.
New: crossAnalytics for Generation of Informative Reports
crossAnalytics uses the methods of Business Intelligence to provide numerous analyses of just about any language resource or translation process, based on data centrally maintained in the Language Server.
Current status information and various retrospective reports are available as part of the standard package, for example on:
- The volumes translated per project/language directions/relationship/...
- The ratio of repetitions achieved with the translation memory, and costs incurred
- The workload per employee/language pair/project/...
- etc.
New: crossAuthor Linguistic for Translation-Oriented Authoring
As of Across v5, expanded authoring support is available in the form of optional add-ons for common editors. It displays at a glance various information about each sentence written in the source text:
- Matches in the translation memory
- Matches in the terminology database
- Error messages or comments generated by the rule-based quality assurance feature
Controlled Language Authoring Tool (CLAT) developed by the IAI at Saarland University has been integrated for rule-based quality assurance. CLAT uses linguistic intelligence to check such things as conformance with grammar rules and defined style guidelines.
Web-Based Project Management and New Interfaces Highlight the Platform Architecture of Across
In addition to existing options such as customer-specific Web portals and optional Web-based translation and proofreading, an optional Web client is now available for project managers, thereby bridging the last gap in the options to use Across via a web browser.
Besides, the number of available connections for corresponding systems has expanded to approximately 50, including interfaces to SAP ERP, Web CMS Typo 3 and the ECM solution of Optimal Systems.
