Across Systems Offers v5 Next Generation Platform at Software Business 2009 Conference

“Language Technology Meets Business Intelligence” in enterprise solution for translation management

LOS ANGELES and KARLSBAD, Germany – Sept. 15, 2009 – Across Systems will use Software Business 2009 in San Diego and DMS EXPO in Cologne, Germany for the general availability launch of its new product generation v5 for management of multilingual product and corporate communications. Distribution to clients has already begun.

Using the motto, “Language Technology Meets Business Intelligence,” Across introduces the concepts of business intelligence for usage in multi-language documents and content. With Across v5, companies operating at an international level gain greater control of valuable language resources and of the management of complex translation processes with increased transparency, despite widespread outsourcing of projects.

The centralized platform for management of corporate language resources and workflows offers several powerful options for process automation as well as for workflow management and analysis:

Product generation v5, based on open interfaces for end-to-end processes, also advances the Across platform architecture. Across features seamless interfaces to more than 45 interacting systems, including SAP ERP, BPM tool Plunet, and Web CMS Typo 3, among others.

Exploiting Full Potential of Language Resources

Using the principles of text and data mining, v5 maximizes efficient re-use of centrally stored foreign-language versions of various types of content, including product catalogs, operating manuals and web sites. Reusage significantly reduces translation workload and costs, and increases the quality and consistency of target translations. In addition to traditional translation memory technology techniques inherent in the program, crossMining enables a more intelligent way to reuse existing text segments.

The terminology system enables finely differentiated, company-wide access to specialized and corporate terminology; both group-wide terminology and unique vocabularies of individual brands within a group can be handled and used separately. Specialized digital dictionaries also can be seamlessly integrated.

The authoring assistance module, crossAuthor, has been expanded to use rule-based quality assurance methods, which allows technical writers to create translation-oriented source texts that systematically comply with style rules.

Full Control of Processes and Workflows

Across introduces Web-based management of any kind of translation project in Language Server v5, further enabling easy collaboration among all participants. External language service providers can be directly linked by means of a server-to-server connection even when Web-based language portals enable structured commissioning of translation projects within a company.

Two new modules deliver sophisticated automation options and greater transparency. The first, crossAutomate, allows for freely configurable automation of processes, ranging from automatic commissioning of defined service providers to simple notification if a deadline is exceeded. The second, crossAnalytics, analyzes all language- and translation-related processes to deliver informative key data and breakdowns, such as text reuse rates or costs and translation throughput for individual languages.

"Across enables companies to remain in charge of the process and smoothly integrate ‘multilingualism’ into business processes despite widespread outsourcing," explains Across Systems, Inc. President Daniel Nackovski. "Our technology provides companies operating at an international level with all the tools necessary for realizing their multilingual product and corporate communication with the same efficiency and transparency as is already taken for granted in the manufacturing and commercial sectors."
