Across Systems Software Gaining Users Within American Universities
Across Systems expands support for translation certification students
LOS ANGELES - April 13, 2010 - Across Systems, supplier of the leading independent linguistic supply chain technology, today announced it has been chosen by the University of Iowa and the University of Washington as well as the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (UWM) as the translation management system of choice for the universities‘ translation programs. These universities join the nearly 30 other colleges in the U.S. and Europe that utilize Across technology through its college program.
Instructor Leah Leone, who teaches "Introduction to Computer-aided Translation (CAT)“ to students in the Cinema and Comparative literature program learning French and Spanish translation at the University of Iowa, chose the Across software for its ease of use and immediate productivity advantages. She had previously worked with SDLX and Trados.
“CAT tools knowledge is essential for translators to stay marketable in the translation business today, and the tools offer a significant efficiency advantage, but only if they are easy to learn and to use,“ says Leone. “My friend, who teaches advanced translation classes at UWM, recommended that I try Across. I was immediately impressed by how quickly we could become proficient on the software, yet how comprehensive it is. Adjunct professor Carla DiFranco at the University of Washington, Microsoft program manager, Windows Engineering Services, who has worked in localization at Microsoft for several years, switched to the Across program after several weeks of access and license verification issues with tools from other providers. AdaQuest, a localization vendor that works with Microsoft, recommended Across software.

It quickly proved its value; I have chosen it for classes I am teaching in two universities.“
